So, without further ado, let’s check out Ait Ben Haddou in Morocco.

What is Ait Ben Haddou?

Tours to Aït Ben Haddou in Morocco

In a nutshell, Ait Ben Haddou is a village made completely of earthen clay. And this clay village is set on a hillside in the desert of Morocco. Ait Ben Haddou is so historical and authentic that it’s one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Morocco. And as I mentioned, the village has been featured in dozens of movies. For instance, Gladiator, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and even Lawrence of Arabia.

So, it’s obvious that Ait Ben Haddou offers a special experience in Morocco. It’s truly a unique site that you really don’t see anywhere else. However, it is difficult to reach so I’m going to share some tours that can get you to Ait Ben Haddou in no time!

Tours to Aït Ben Haddou

1. Day Trip from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou

Visit Ait Ben Haddou in Morocco for a great experience

The day trip starts with a pickup from your Marrakech accommodation around 7 am. Conveniently, the form of transportation is a spacious, air-conditioned van. As you travel deeper into the Atlas Mountains, your views become more immaculate. So get ready to immerse yourself in the local culture at Ait Ben Haddou. Explore the area with your driver or tour guide here and learn about the scheduled sights.

After sightseeing, you have some free time to roam around Ait Ben Haddou. I’m sure after walking around you’re probably hungry. Why not have some lunch at Auberge Azaddou Tamlalte? This is a popular Moroccan restaurant offering all kinds of traditional cuisine at an affordable price. Finally, remember to take photos at the most extraordinary fortresses in the village.

2. Day Tour to Aït Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate

Visit Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate in Morocco.

After being picked up, the first stop on this tour is at Tizi n Tichka, In addition to the interesting villages you visit, winding through the High Atlas Mountains, the Col of Tichka Pass offers one of Morocco’s most dramatic drives. Not only does the pass have insane panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains but it also serves as a great entrance to the Sahara Desert. Soon, you see the patterned Ait Ben Haddou. You will spend about 4 hours in the village on this tour.

Grab a coffee or something from many sellers of arts & crafts in the village. Your next stop is at Ouarzazate: a town best known for its film studios, the Kasbah of Taourirt, as well as the cinema museum. Have lunch in the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou or the city of Ouarzazate. Finally, stay at Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, or head back to Marrakech.

Lastly and definitely my favourite tour is the two-day tour. During this two-day trip, discover Ouarzazate, Zagora, and Aït Ben Haddou. On the first day, you travel through the desert sandstone city of Ouarzazate. Then, stop at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, where you have the opportunity to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site. End the day in Zagora and make your way to the dunes for a sunset camel ride. Afterwards, set up camp in Zagora and enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner.

On the second day, wake up early and enjoy a typical Berber breakfast. A Berber breakfast is a traditional Moroccan breakfast that consists of bread, olive oil, jam, and honey. Best of all, it’s served before sunrise. And if that’s not enough for you, watch the sunrise from the back of your camel in the dunes. Eventually, get back on the bus and hit the road back to Marrakech.

Are We Dune Yet?

Yes, we’re dune! Get it? Because dune sounds like done and there are dunes in the desert. Anyway, Morocco is a bucket list destination and I hope I’ve persuaded you to go. Because when I think of Morocco, I mainly think of really cool cities and I want you to be cool. Only because I care. But if it’s not your thing, don’t worry I got you covered. Check out Morocco’s bougie beach resorts instead. And as always, thank you so much for being here!
