There are few, if any, but one, restaurants in Dempsey specialising in Peranakan cuisine. Candlenut has maintained its one Michelin star year after year since 2016, owing its success to the genuine yet contemporary Peranakan food.

They continue to provide their distinctive ‘Ah Ma Kase’ lunch and dinner menus, as well as an a la carte menu that includes all of their famous dishes, such as Babi Buah Keluak, ‘Yeye White Chicken Curry, and Assam Sotong Hitam. This restaurant has a 4.4-star rating out of 1 671 Google reviews and is open every day from 12 pm to 3 pm, and then again from 6 pm to 10 pm. Bookings are essential. Candlenut is located at 17a Dempsey Road.

Chef Malcolm Lee is the chef-owner of Candlenut. He was the first Singaporean to get the Miele Guide Scholarship, which allowed him to attend the At-Sunrice Globalchef Academy and explore his Asian culinary heritage. With homemade ricotta served with heirloom tomatoes, basil, toasted sourdough, and beetroot carpaccio with goat cheese, arugula, and hazelnuts, your meal is bound to take you to the stars. This lovely. One-of-a-kind restaurant is located at 7A & 7B Dempsey Road. Boasting wood and rattan fixtures and furnishings, the interior is warm, inviting, and earthy. Coupled with large windows overlooking the greenery, the laid-back and relaxing ambience promises a world of flavour encompassed by the principles of nature.

Their menu features various house specialities, including Beijing Duc, made using an ancient Chinese recipe. The menu also includes dim sum, roast meats, and noodle dishes, all highly Instagrammable!
