Greenside by itself just sounds like a healthy area but trust me, The Fussy Vegan is the healthy eatery you don’t want to miss. Here, you get to indulge in amazing everyday “junk food” without the guilt. All their meals are inspired by popular “takeaways” like burgers, burritos, and even bagels. However, everything that’s available to order is 100% vegan and gluten-free. Also, they’ve added a little bit of spice by offering traditional Mexican dishes.

Try their Mexican Bowls and experience a flavourful explosion with every bite. And as I mentioned before, it’s all the goodness minus the guilt. Additionally, they also offer chilled options for the warmer days. Choose between a poke bowl or a chilled Mexican bowl to satisfy that craving. Then, for dessert, enjoy a bowl of tasty plant-based ice cream. You never miss out on anything when you visit The Fussy Vegan.

Sticking to the “green” theme, this restaurant is a must-visit! The Green Room is a family-style restaurant situated at the Pirates Sports Club in Greenside, Johannesburg. Moreover, this restaurant is known for its breakfast and lunch offerings. Essentially, you can be sure that you will eat simple great food and drink excellent coffee in a relaxed atmosphere with beautiful indoor and garden seating overlooking the bowling greens. Not only is their food healthy but they’re also a dog-friendly location!

Start your visit with freshly pressed green or orange juice or perhaps a berry, mango, or peanut and cocoa smoothy. Along with all the usual warm and cold drinks they also offer kombucha for some great probiotics. When I tell you the breakfast and lunch menu seems endless, I’m not overreacting. Choose between vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or wholesome options. Of course, after your tasty nutritious meal, treat yourself to one of their delectable yet healthy desserts. How could you not end your meal with a dessert? You can’t, I don’t make the rules.

The perfect blend of both healthy tasty, food and cute, café aesthetics is exactly what you’ll find at Lexi’s Healthy Eatery. For all your plant-based cravings, this healthy eatery is your next stop. Interestingly, Lexi, the founder of Lexi’s Healthy Eatery started out as a designer. Eventually, moving her way up the advertising ladder and then moving over to a marketing management position in a corporate financial news agency. She soon realised a life behind a desk was not for her and she started working on a sneaky strategy to move into the food industry. With her background in design and marketing, I’m sure you believe me when I say this is one of the most stunning restaurants I’ve seen.

The menu is made up of breakfast, bowls, burgers, wraps, and main meals. In addition to many food options, the menu cleverly guides the customer regarding which meals contain gluten and refined sugars. All the milk Lexi uses is plant-based and included in the price. Making healthy eating and drinking accessible and easy for anyone, even newbies.

Even though The Greenside Café serves only vegetarian and vegan food, it’s definitely capable of seducing even meat eaters with its tasty, plant-based food. They offer pizzas with sourdough or gluten-free bases which are all homemade. Plus, pasta with spaghetti or tofu ribbon options, wraps, wholewheat, nori seaweed and gluten-free, and yummy, healthy desserts. Of course, there are breakfast options too. Perhaps, try out the full English breakfast, which includes scrambled tofu, vegan bacon, carrots and beets.

Lastly, there is a very laid-back and simple vibe with their furnishing choices. The simplistic decor is accompanied by fun quotes around the cafe that keeps you occupied while you wait for your food. For example, “Where the grass is greener”. Get it? Because vegans eat grass. I’m just kidding!
