There are 5 Chiang Rai, each boasting a unique and intricate design. Chiang Rai is known for its temples, and if you ever find yourself staying at Baan Nukanong Guesthouse, visiting these temples is a must! The most famous of the five temples is the Wat Rong Khun, otherwise known as the White Temple. The temple is white, symbolising purity and featuring intricate sculptures and murals with contemporary pop culture references. The second temple is the Wat Phra Kaew temple, located within the grounds of the Chiang Rai Provincial Government Office. Wat Phra Kaew is believed to have been the original location where the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most revered Buddha image, was discovered.

The other three temples are just as impressive: Wat Phra Singh is in the heart of Chiang Rai’s old town, and Wat Huai Pla Kung is famous for its giant white statue of Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy and compassion. Finally, the Wat Rong Suena Ten, known as the Blue Temple, is famous for its striking blue exterior and intricate golden decorations. 3. Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park

The Mae Fah Luang Art & Cultural Park is home to the most extensive assortment of folk art and teak relics from the Lanna Kingdom in the region. Renowned as a distinctive attraction for tourists in northern Thailand, it was honoured with the Thailand Tourism Award 2006 for its excellence in the Arts and Culture category. Baan Nukanong Guesthouse is located 16 minutes from the Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park at 313 Mu 7 Mueang Chiang Rai. This centre is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. They are, however, closed on Mondays and public holidays.

The park houses an extensive collection of art and cultural artefacts, showcasing the rich heritage of the Lanna Kingdom, which once flourished in the region. Visitors can admire diverse exhibits, including traditional Lanna architecture, folk art, textiles, ceramics, and religious artefacts. However, one of the main attractions in the park is the Haw Kham, or Golden Pavilion, a stunning preserved teakwood structure initially built in the late 19th century! Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the garden and bask in the ambience of true Thai culture!
